JOB SUMMARY

The Patron Account Associate provides high quality, professional customer service that enables the public to access the full range of services provided by the Patron Services Department. Additionally, the incumbent improves the quality of life for the residents of Blount County through information access, education, and recreation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:           

  • Provides face-to-face customer service in support of the information access needs of library users with an emphasis on customer service including, but not limited to: new patron registration; patron account maintenance; recording/collecting fines and fees; and liaising with library users to ensure equitable access to library materials;
  • Administers support facets of information access provision including materials circulation, materials shelving, and patron referral to other Library departments;
  • Collects and records daily library statistics as directed by Patron Services Manager;
  • Contributes to the planning and/or implementation of library initiatives in a manner which is supportive and encourages team work and collaboration;
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and other required activities such as performance management;
  • Identifies issues with current processes and procedures and make recommendations to the Director by actively supporting the implementation of changes which improve the efficiency and effectiveness of library service provision;
  • Accepts, receives, and/or collects payments;
  • Performs inventory/property management;
  • Provides routine supervision to library aides, volunteers, and student workers;
  • Adheres to the Blount County Government and Blount County Public Library policies, procedures and regulations including attendance policy, work ethics, TRS records, statistical data collection and library system reports; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Associate's Degree;
  • Six (6) months of experience;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of library organization, resources, and systems;
  • Knowledge of departmental practices and systems;
  • Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
  • Skilled in using computers for data entry;
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs;
  • Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively;
  • Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others; an
  • Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work requires occasional lifting and carrying (up to 10 pounds); crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:   

  • Most work performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
